About the practice

A medical spa run by clinicians, not salespeople

Metro Skin Care is a medical aesthetics practice on East Maple Road in Troy, Michigan, minutes from I-75 and Somerset Collection. We opened with a straightforward idea: the person holding the syringe or the laser handpiece should have real medical training behind them.

Our founder, Nataliia Zelinska, is a registered nurse who practised as a physician in oncology before moving into aesthetic medicine. That background shapes how we work. We assess skin the way a clinician assesses a patient — history first, contraindications second, treatment plan third. If a treatment is not right for your skin type, your medication list, or your timeline, we will tell you so.

Every appointment starts with a consultation, not a price list. We explain what a treatment can realistically achieve, how many sessions it will take, what the downtime looks like, and what it will cost before anything begins. Clients come to us from Troy, Sterling Heights, Royal Oak, Birmingham, Madison Heights, Clawson and Rochester Hills.

We use medical-grade devices and products, we keep detailed treatment records, and we follow up after every procedure. Results should look like a well-rested version of you — not like work.

Treatments

Aesthetic & Skin Care Services in Troy, MI

Ten core treatments covering injectables, resurfacing, tightening and hair removal. Every service begins with a consultation so we can confirm it suits your skin and goals.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections (Botox)

Neuromodulator injections that relax the muscles responsible for frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet. We inject conservatively and review you at two weeks, so we can add a touch more if needed rather than starting too heavy.

Best for: dynamic lines on the upper face, brow shaping, jaw clenching.

Results in 3–7 days · Lasts 3–4 months · No downtime

Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic-acid fillers used to restore volume that has been lost with age — cheeks, tear troughs, nasolabial folds, lips and jawline definition. Reversible, and placed in small increments across sessions where structure work is involved.

Best for: volume loss, lip hydration and shape, jawline and chin contour.

Immediate result · Lasts 6–18 months · 1–3 days swelling

Microneedling

Controlled micro-injuries trigger the skin's own collagen response. Over a course of treatments this softens acne scarring, refines enlarged pores and improves overall skin texture. Topical numbing is applied beforehand — most clients describe it as prickly rather than painful.

Best for: acne scars, texture, pore size, fine lines, skin laxity.

3–6 sessions · 4 weeks apart · 24–48 h redness

IPL Skin Rejuvenation

Intense pulsed light targets pigment and broken capillaries without disturbing the skin surface. It is the treatment of choice for sun damage and redness — particularly relevant after a Michigan summer. Best performed in autumn and winter when sun exposure is low.

Best for: sun spots, freckling, rosacea-type redness, uneven tone.

3–5 sessions · Minimal downtime · Autumn–winter preferred

Laser Skin Resurfacing

A more intensive resurfacing option for deeper lines, scarring and sun-damaged skin. Fractional delivery treats a percentage of the skin surface at a time, which shortens recovery compared with fully ablative resurfacing. We plan these around your calendar because there is genuine downtime.

Best for: deeper wrinkles, scarring, significant sun damage.

1–3 sessions · 5–7 days downtime · Strict sun avoidance after

Skin Tightening

Energy-based tightening that heats the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen contraction and remodelling. A non-surgical option for mild to moderate laxity along the jawline, neck, abdomen and upper arms. Improvement builds gradually over three months.

Best for: mild jowling, neck laxity, post-weight-loss skin.

4–6 sessions · No downtime · Peak result at 3 months

Mesotherapy

A series of superficial micro-injections delivering vitamins, amino acids and hyaluronic acid directly into the dermis. Used for skin quality rather than volume — hydration, glow and elasticity, especially on the face, neck and décolletage.

Best for: dull, dehydrated skin, early laxity, pre-event preparation.

4–6 sessions · 2 weeks apart · Minimal downtime

Skin Lightening Treatment

A combined protocol for hyperpigmentation — professional peels, targeted actives and a home-care regimen. Melasma in particular needs consistency and strict sun protection, so we set expectations clearly at the consultation and track progress with photographs.

Best for: melasma, post-inflammatory pigmentation, sun spots.

Course of 4–8 weeks · Home care essential · SPF 50 daily

Stretch Mark Removal

Microneedling and fractional laser used together to break down scar tissue and rebuild collagen through the stretch mark. Newer red or purple marks respond considerably better than older white ones — we are honest with you about which category yours fall into.

Best for: post-pregnancy and growth-related striae, abdomen, thighs, arms.

4–8 sessions · Gradual improvement · Best on newer marks

IPL Hair Removal

Long-term hair reduction using intense pulsed light. Works best on dark hair against lighter skin, and requires a course of sessions timed to the hair growth cycle. We assess your hair and skin type at consultation and tell you honestly what results to expect.

Best for: underarms, legs, bikini, face, back and chest.

6–8 sessions · 4–6 weeks apart · No sun before or after

Our team

Who will be treating you

Both of our practitioners trained in medicine before moving into aesthetics. That is unusual for a med spa, and it is the reason we can say no to a treatment when it is not appropriate.

Nataliia Zelinska, RN

Founder & Registered Nurse Injector

Nataliia graduated from medical school in Ukraine and practised as a physician in oncology, specialising in oncogynaecology, before moving into aesthetic medicine. After relocating to the United States she earned her aesthetician licence, had her Ukrainian medical qualifications formally evaluated, and completed her registered nurse degree.

She has worked in aesthetics for more than ten years across two countries, and attends aesthetic medicine symposiums regularly to keep current with technique and technology. Her clinical background means she reads a medication list and a medical history before she reads a face.

What to expect

Your first visit, step by step

Nobody should walk into a medical spa unsure what is about to happen to their face. Here is exactly how a first appointment at Metro Skin Care runs.

1. Medical intake

Before anything else we take a full history: current medications, allergies, autoimmune conditions, previous aesthetic treatments, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and any history of cold sores or keloid scarring. This is not paperwork for its own sake — several of these directly change what we can safely offer you and at what dose.

10–15 minutes

2. Skin assessment

We examine your skin under proper lighting, establish your Fitzpatrick skin type and note pigmentation, vascular changes, texture and laxity. Skin type matters enormously for light-based treatments: what is safe and effective on one skin type can cause burns or post-inflammatory pigmentation on another.

10 minutes · Photographs taken with consent

3. Treatment plan & pricing

We explain what each option can realistically achieve, in what timeframe, and how many sessions it will take. You get the full price before anything begins — including the cost of the complete course, not just the first session. If your goal is better served by a treatment we do not offer, we will tell you that too.

Written plan · No same-day pressure

4. Consent & patch testing

You sign an informed consent that lists the realistic risks, not a generic waiver. For light-based treatments on darker skin types, or where your history suggests caution, we perform a patch test and bring you back rather than treating the same day. Delaying a week is cheaper than treating a burn.

Same day or patch test at 7 days

5. The treatment

Numbing where it is needed, and a running commentary so you always know what is happening next. Injectables typically take fifteen to thirty minutes; microneedling and IPL closer to an hour including preparation. We work conservatively on a first visit — it is always possible to add more, and considerably harder to take it away.

15–60 minutes depending on treatment

6. Aftercare & review

You leave with written aftercare instructions and a direct number to call if anything concerns you. Injectable clients are reviewed at two weeks so we can assess the settled result and adjust. Course-based treatments are booked out in advance so the intervals stay correct — spacing matters more than most people expect.

Written aftercare · 2-week review on injectables

Before your appointment

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before injectables — it increases bruising.
  • Stop non-essential blood thinners such as fish oil, vitamin E and ibuprofen for three to five days, but never stop prescribed medication without speaking to your doctor first.
  • Come without make-up if you can, or allow time for us to remove it.
  • No sun exposure or self-tanner for two weeks before any light-based treatment.
  • Tell us about any cold sore history — we may prescribe antiviral cover before treatments around the mouth.

Who we cannot treat

Being straightforward about this saves everyone time. We do not perform injectable or energy-based treatments during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Active skin infection, uncontrolled autoimmune disease affecting the skin, recent isotretinoin use, or a recent course of certain photosensitising medications will all mean postponing.

If you have an undiagnosed skin lesion, we will refer you to a dermatologist before treating anything nearby. A medical spa is not the right setting for diagnosis, and a practitioner who treats around a lesion without asking questions is one to avoid.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How long does Botox last?

For most people, three to four months. The first treatment sometimes wears off a little sooner because the muscle is still at full strength; with regular treatment the muscle weakens slightly and intervals often lengthen. Metabolism, dose and how expressive the treated area is all affect duration. We book a complimentary review at two weeks to check the result and top up if needed.

Does microneedling hurt?

A topical numbing cream is applied for about twenty minutes beforehand, after which most clients describe the sensation as prickly or scratchy rather than painful. Bonier areas such as the forehead and jawline are more noticeable than the cheeks. Expect redness similar to moderate sunburn for 24 to 48 hours afterwards.

How many IPL sessions will I need?

For pigmentation and redness, typically three to five sessions spaced three to four weeks apart. For hair removal, six to eight sessions timed to the growth cycle. IPL responds to contrast between pigment and surrounding skin, so we assess your skin type at consultation and tell you honestly whether IPL or an alternative will serve you better.

What is the difference between Botox and fillers?

They solve different problems. Botox relaxes muscle activity and treats lines caused by movement — frown lines, forehead lines, crow's feet. Fillers add volume back to areas that have lost it, such as cheeks, tear troughs and lips. Many treatment plans use both, but they are not interchangeable, and using one where the other is indicated produces disappointing results.

Is there downtime after treatment?

It depends entirely on the treatment. Botox and mesotherapy have essentially none — small injection marks that settle within an hour. Fillers may bruise or swell for one to three days. Microneedling leaves redness for 24 to 48 hours. Laser skin resurfacing is the exception, with genuine peeling and redness for five to seven days, so we plan those around your schedule.

Do you offer consultations before booking a treatment?

Yes, and we require one. Every new client is assessed before any treatment is performed — we review your medical history, current medications, skin type and goals, then explain what is realistically achievable, how many sessions it will take and what it will cost. If we do not think a treatment is right for you, we will say so and suggest an alternative.
